Recipe Detail

View, scale, convert, and manage individual recipes.

  • -Batch scaling — multiply all ingredients by 1x, 2x, 3x, or 5x for larger batches
  • -Unit conversion — toggle between oz (imperial) and ml (metric) with bartender-friendly jigger snapping
  • -QR code — generate a shareable QR code for any public recipe that links to its web page
  • -Version history — view and restore previous versions of a recipe (auto-saved on every edit)
  • -Lock/unlock — workspace owners can lock recipes to prevent editors from modifying them
  • -Recipe photo — displayed at the top of the card when uploaded
  • -Print as PDF — export any recipe as a printable card in 4x6 index card or A5 format
  • -Ingredient substitutions — see alternative ingredient suggestions inline (e.g., "or rye whiskey")

Batch scaling

Click the scale buttons (1x, 2x, 3x, 5x) above the ingredient list. All amounts update instantly. Your unit preference is remembered across recipes.

Version history

Every time you edit a recipe, the previous version is automatically saved. Click the clock icon to browse past versions, preview any snapshot, and restore it if needed. Restoring creates a new version — you never lose data.

Print as PDF

Click the PDF button on any recipe detail page. Choose between 4x6 index card (standard bar card size) or A5 format. The PDF downloads instantly with your recipe name, ingredients, instructions, garnish, rim, ABV, tasting notes, and any substitution notes — all formatted for clean printing on white paper.

*

Your measurement preference (oz or ml) is saved locally and applied automatically when you view any recipe.

Importing Recipes

Bring recipes into Muddled from any source — URLs, photos, other apps, or plain text.

Click the Import button on the My Recipes page to open the import hub. Four methods are available:

1. Import from URL

Paste any recipe page link. Works with Punch, Imbibe, Difford's Guide, Saveur, Liquor.com, Food & Wine, and most cocktail sites. AI extracts the recipe automatically.

2. Upload a photo

Upload a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image of a recipe card, index card, or handwritten note. AI reads the image with vision and extracts the spec.

3. From another app

Export recipes from Highball, Mixel, BarSpoon, Cocktail Flow, or any other cocktail app. Select your source app for tailored export instructions, paste the text, and AI parses it.

4. Paste from Notes

Copy a recipe from iPhone Notes, Apple Notes, or any text source and paste it. Supports bullet lists, numbered steps, and free-form text. AI handles the rest.

*

After import, you always get a review screen where you can edit every field before saving. Check the AI confidence badges to see which fields need your attention.

Templates

Start from a classic cocktail and make it your own.

When you have fewer than 3 recipes, the My Recipes page shows 9 classic cocktail templates: Margarita, Old Fashioned, Negroni, Daiquiri, Manhattan, Whiskey Sour, Espresso Martini, Aperol Spritz, and Mojito.

  1. 1

Click any template card on the My Recipes page

  2. 2

The recipe form opens pre-filled with the classic spec

  3. 3

Modify anything — change ratios, swap ingredients, rename it

  4. 4

    Save as your own recipe

*

Templates are a great way to learn the recipe card format. Once you have 3+ recipes, templates are hidden — but you can always create a new recipe from scratch.
